Board of Assessment & Review

Term:                5 years – October 1-September 30

A vacancy currently exists on the Town of New Hartford Board of Assessment and Review (BAR).

Responsibilities for this position include:  Attendance at 1-hour informational meeting that is scheduled prior to Grievance Day.  Attendance at Grievance Day, a six to eight hour session, always held on the fourth Tuesday of May to hear complaints from property owners regarding their assessments.  Attendance at all post Grievance Day meetings to make determinations on assessment complaints.  The number of meetings and hours spent in this capacity depend on the number of grievances filed.  Incumbent must attend a ½ day class prior to sitting on the Board along with a ½ day refresher course every 3-5 years.

Qualifications for this position include an understanding and awareness of property values.
