The Town of New Hartford is seeking a qualified Code Enforcement Officer/Department Head to administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, local zoning and building regulations, and other applicable codes, laws, rules, and regulations. This position is responsible for coordinating code enforcement activities, reviewing and issuing building permits and certificates of occupancy, conducting inspections of buildings and construction projects, issuing notices for unsafe or non-compliant conditions, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports for municipal government. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of building construction practices, building trades, fire prevention principles, and applicable codes, along with the ability to read plans, communicate clearly, maintain organized records, and work cooperatively with contractors, public officials, and residents. Candidates must possess certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to NYS Department of State requirements and meet the applicable education and experience qualifications.
