Job Description:

The Town of New Hartford is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Part-Time Fire Inspector. This position is responsible for conducting fire and life-safety inspections, identifying potential fire hazards, and helping ensure compliance with applicable State and local fire prevention and building codes.

The Fire Inspector works with residents, businesses, property owners, contractors, and Town staff to address fire safety concerns and promote compliance throughout the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct fire and safety inspections of commercial buildings, schools, places of assembly, institutions, housing facilities, and other properties.
  • Investigate complaints involving fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Inspect sprinkler systems, exits, fire safety equipment, vacant buildings, and other conditions related to fire prevention.
  • Identify violations and work with responsible parties to address corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and prepare reports.
  • Provide information and guidance regarding applicable fire prevention and safety requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess:

Certification as a Building Safety Inspector or Code Enforcement Official pursuant to the New York State Department of State requirements under Title 19 NYCRR Part 1208;

AND

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
