The main responsibility of Animal Control is the monitoring and control of domestic animals. Animal Control also handles situations such as "barking dog" and "dog bite" complaints.
With issues pertaining to wild animals, the Animal Control Officer is limited by NYS Environmental Conservation Laws. Most wildlife species are "protected" and the Department of Environmental Conservation regulates their handling.
